Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are benign, coarse protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is infiltrated by HPV through a cut or other skin break. These elevated, flesh-colored abnormalities can pop up anywhere on the body, resembling a blister. While they're harmless, a lot of our patients at Chapel Hill Dermatology opt to have them removed since they can be passed on through touch, and quite frankly... they simply don't want these warts lingering on their skin!
It's common to find typical warts on hands, fingers, around nail areas,or on the back of hands. Plantar warts emerge on the soles of the feet and can become painful if left untreated. Flat warts can materialize on any part of the body, while filiform warts appear like thin threads on the face. Wart are routinely treated by our team.
How is it treated?
