Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that involves the use of a focused light beam (laser) to eliminate undesired hair. This treatment permanently destroys hair follicles and effectively delays hair growth for long periods.
What is it?
Laser hair removal is a popular and effective method for reducing unwanted hair from various parts of the body. Using concentrated beams of light, the laser targets and destroys hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. This treatment is precise, allowing our medical providers to selectively target unwanted dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Suitable for most skin types, laser hair removal can be used on areas such as the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini line and back. Typically, most individuals require between six and eight sessions to attain desired results. Patients can expect a significant reduction in hair growth, resulting in smoother, hair-free skin.

What to expect
Laser hair removal is a precise and efficient procedure that many find comfortable. Here’s what you can anticipate throughout the treatment process:
Preparation:
The treatment area will be cleaned, and you will be given protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser light. If needed, a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort.
Laser Application:
Our medical provider will use a handheld laser device, adjusting the settings based on your skin type, hair thickness, and color. The laser emits concentrated light beams that penetrate the skin to target the hair follicles.
Sensations:
As the laser pulses, you may feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin, accompanied by a slight warming or tingling. Most patients find this manageable, and any discomfort is usually brief.
Duration:
The length of the session varies depending on the size of the treatment area. Small areas, like the upper lip, may take just a few minutes, while larger areas, like the legs or back, can take up to an hour or more.
Post-Treatment Care:
After the session, you might experience mild redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to a sunburn. These side effects are typically temporary and subside within a few hours to a couple of days. Your dermatologist may recommend applying a soothing cream or aloe vera gel to ease any discomfort.
Results:
Hair will gradually shed from the treated follicles over the following days to weeks. Because hair growth occurs in cycles, multiple sessions (typically 6-8) spaced several weeks apart are necessary to achieve optimal results.
