What is it?

Rosacea is a chronic skin inflammation condition, which often results in a flushed complexion or a skin rash. This skin disorder is typically seen in adults in their middle age or older, and particularly affects those with light skin tones. It's crucial to note that rosacea can sometimes be misdiagnosed as acne, allergic reactions or eczema, due to the similarity in their symptomatology.

The onset of rosacea is usually characterized by the appearance of small, reddish, pus-filled bumps predominantly on the cheeks, nose, forehead and occasionally the eyes. Other symptoms include swelling of the face, dry and flaky skin, visible blood vessels on the skin, an enlarged nose and persistent redness of the skin.

Rosacea is among the prevalent skin conditions that our board-certified practitioners treat. Our medical practice caters to patients in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas.

How is it treated?

While there isn't a complete remedy for rosacea, the Chapel Hill Dermatology team can help manage your symptomos - often to the point that your rosacea is barely noticeable. Treatment start with identifying the unique triggers of your rosacea flare-ups. Knowing your triggers can help reduce the frequency and intensity of your symptoms. Therapies such as topical drugs, oral antibiotics, light therapy and laser treatment are available to alleviate your discomfort.
